Day 1: Arrival in Kutaisi International Airport, and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day and evening is at leisure
Day 2: After breakfast, meet your guide and driver in the lobby for an exploration of Georgia’s third-largest city, one of the oldest settlements in Europe. Visit the local farmers market; take a walking tour if the city centre, Bagrati Cathedral – a symbol of United Georgia and one of the favourite landmarks for the locals; Gelati Monastery – a masterpiece of Georgian Golden Era built in the 12th Century by one of the strongest kings of Georgia, David the Builder, and today recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
Drive to Zugdidi – the administrative center of the Samegrelo region and visit Dadiani Palaces Historical and Architectural Museum, which was established in 1921 in the centre of Zugdidi and contains more the 40,000 items. Then head to Mestia through the mountains, surrounded by deep forests and rivers. On arrival check-in at your hotel for the night.
Day 3: Drive to Ushguli by 4x4vehicle. A UNESCO world heritage site, and the highest permanently inhabited village in Europe, it is located at the feet of Shkhara, one of the highest Caucasian summits. Here, visit St. Mary Church “Lamaria”, built in the 10th century, where you will find a sample of Golden Fleece. There is the option of a short trek towards Shkhara Mountain, before driving back to Mestia.
Lunch today is at a local family-run restaurant in Ushguli where you will enjoy a food master class in Ushguli Sulguni (Georgian cheese, similar to mozzarella) and Kubdari (genuinely made by dough and meat). Dinner and overnight in Mestia.
Day 4: After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a privately guided walking tour of Mestia, exploring the beautiful valley and small low-storied houses. Drive to the health and spa resort town of Sairme and check-in at your hotel where the afternoon and evening are at leisure.
Day 5-7: Free time for leisure and independent exploration of Sairme. The health resort Sairme is located to the south of Kutaisi, 950 meters above sea level, and its unique location offers healing springs, an ecologically clean environment, and beautiful nature to explore, being located in a subtropical mountainous area.
Day 8: Return to Kutaisi International Airport for your onward flight home.
