	Mount Fuji, southwest of Tokyo, and Japan’s geographical landmark. Over 12,000 feet high, it is Japan’s highest mountain, attracts thousands of pilgrims every summer who hike to its sacred summit, and on a clear day provides the most amazing backdrop.
	Kyoto is a city of stark contrasts to the capital. A stunning imperial city with picture-perfect temples, traditional wooden houses, geishas and Zen gardens. Highlights include the geisha district of Gion and its tea houses and Nijo Castle for its rich history.
	Osaka is Japan’s second largest city and can also be flown to directly from the UK. It is buzzing and beautiful, sometimes called the ‘Venice of the East’ due to its numerous canals and river channels. It also has a status of a food-loving city, boasting a fabulous range of restaurants and food stalls and within its underground maze of shopping malls. A day trip or overnight stay on Naoshima Island with its art culture is well worth it from here also.
	Nara is a feast of cultural and historic treasures including some of Japan’s oldest temples, and makes for a fascinating visit as part of a wider itinerary. While the Japanese Alps bisect the main island of Honshu and host several Onsen (hot springs). A tranquil escape from the bustling cities and a feast for the eyes.
