Paradise Road Tintagel Colombo is a unique and private hotel, situated in the heart of Colombo’s most elite neighbourhood. Offering 10 individually designed suites with all modern amenities and services, our hotel is housed in a stunning heritage residence that was previously home to three of Sri Lanka’s political leaders.

With its close proximity to many embassies and places of business, Paradise Road Tintagel Colombo is a popular choice of accommodation for corporate travellers and with its intimate atmosphere also a preferred choice by holiday-makers.

Completed in 1930, Tintagel was intended as a residence for Dr. Lucien de Zilwa. In the mid 1940’s de Zilwa was given a week to vacate the property by the British Military to house one hundred soldiers. The military occupation saw the house wrecked and de Zilwa sold Tintagel to Sir Solomon Dias Bandaranaike for his son, Solomon West Ridgeway (S.W.R.D.). It is from this point in time that the house gained recognition as a structure of national importance.

It was here that Ceylon’s political history was decided. S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike became Prime Minister in 1956 and he was shot on the verandah of Tintagel in 1959 and subsequently died in hospital. In 1960, his widow, Sirimavo Bandaranaike, became the world’s first female Prime Minister. Mrs. Bandaranaike won several elections and was re-elected in 1970 and 1994, thereby becoming the longest serving Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. Mrs. Bandaranaike resided at Tintagel right up until her demise in 2000. In 1983, their only son, Anura Bandaranaike became leader of the Opposition, Speaker of the House of Parliament in 2000 and a Minister of several Ministries of Government. The younger daughter of S.W.R.D. and Sirimavo Bandaranaike, Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga progressively became a Chief Minister, Prime Minister and then Sri Lanka’s first female President in 1994.

In 2005, Tintagel, the family home of the Bandaranaike’s was leased to Udayshanth Fernando by the family to become Paradise Road Tintagel Colombo, a unique private hotel.

Royal Suites:

Our Royal Suites are individually designed grand accommodation with separate living rooms and lavish in both size and decoration. All the suites feature a separate private lounge area and balcony access making them perfect for business travellers and honeymooners.

Our Royal Suites are located on the first floor and are named after being selected by Their Royal Highnesses, Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall as their chosen accommodation during their visit to Sri Lanka in 2013.

Superior Suites:

The Superior Suite is conveniently located on the ground floor and features an outdoor lounge area and private plunge pool as well as the separate lounge area on entrance into the suite.

The individual design of the Superior Suite features light blue and off-white colours making it a calm, relaxing spread out room for couples and individual guests.

Executive Suites:

Our Executive Suites all have high ceilings, timber floors and are lavishly decorated, each in a unique blend of colour, texture and atmosphere. Our spacious bathrooms feature rain showers, bath tubs and large vanities. The Gym

Our gym is located on the first floor of the hotel and contains the basic requirements for a workout. Free weights, treadmill, cross-trainer, yoga mat and television makes this the perfect place for a daily workout. In addition Paradise Road Tintagel Colombo is located in close proximity to yoga studios; on request the reception will inform guests of the timetables available.

The Spa

Our Massage Room is available for guests on appointment for massages in comfort of air-conditioned privacy with relaxed spa music and aromatherapy oils.

Lap Pool

The Lap Pool is located on the ground floor of the hotel and is a favourite for guests who don’t want to miss their swimming routine or catch a tan by the pool in the mornings. The Lap Pool features the lifesize contemporary sculpture by Sri Lankan contemporary artist Chamila Gamage.

The Library

The Library carries a large collection of bound books and coffee table books available for guests to browse at any time of the day. In addition, the Library is the perfect spot for guests to relax after a meeting or tour and help themselves to complimentary flavoured waters throughout the day

Dining:

The Courtyard

The Courtyard, situated off the grand main lobby lounge, is an alfresco restaurant offering the Paradise Road Tintagel Colombo à la carte menu consisting of international cuisine. With seating on relaxed antique-white woven armchairs and polished concrete table tops under the patio or black umbrellas surrounded by high walls of thambergia creepers. In the evening, The Courtyard transforms to a magical candle-lit space for outdoor dining.

The Dining Room

The Dining Room is a smart and chic indoor restaurant offering the Paradise Road Tintagel Colombo à la carte dining menu consisting of international cuisine. Seating on smart black banquettes and leather-upholstered chairs at black lacquered tables, with white linen napery and plum-coloured glassware. The Dining Room is adorned by a specially commissioned series of work by Sri Lankan based Belgian artist Saskia Pintelon.

The Private Dining Room

The Private Dining Room is an ideal location for private, personal or even business functions for up to 30 people. A service of personalized decorating and set menus is provided with delectable canapés and petit fours. Decorated in light white and beige colours, the room contains a seating area on plush white sofas for pre-drinks and on both sides of the dining area shelves carry part of the Paradise Road Private Collection Lionel Wendt black and white photographs.

The Red Bar

The Red Bar is a space where guests can lounge in style on grey and black lounges at bronze tables. Perfect for private meetings, romantic tête-a-tête or for a nightcap, the Red Bar is Colombo’s most stylish intimate bar, decorated with antique French baroque candle-stands and mirrors.
